FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Peggy Valentine will take over as interim chancellor of Fayetteville State University in early August, UNC System Interim President Bill Roper announced Friday.

  • Peggy Valentine oversees several educational programs at WSSU including a doctoral program she helped create.
  • She will take over as Interim Chancellor August 7.

“I am proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Valentine, someone in whom I am confident in and who has demonstrated great leadership capabilities during her tenure as a dean at Winston-Salem State,” Roper said in a statement.

Valentine currently serves as the dean of the School of Heath Sciences at Winston-Salem State University where she oversees several education programs. She has also previously worked as a nurse and physician’s assistant.

She received her doctorate in education from Virginia Tech. She was listed in Who’s Who of American Woman and was honored as the American Academy of Physician Assistants Educator of the Year, according to a statement from FSU. 

Valentine played a large role in WSSU’s first doctorial degrees in physical therapy and nursing practice. The school also expanded its work toward eliminating heath disparities among residents of Winston-Salem under her leadership, according to a release from FSU.

“I am honored to be asked to serve in this role at Fayetteville State University,” Valentine said in a statement. “I look forward to working with the Board of Trustees, administration, and faculty to move FSU forward during this time of transition.

FSU Provost Pam Jackson will continue to serve as interim chancellor until Valentine takes over August 7. Jackson took over as chancellor after the resignation of Chancellor James Anderson on June 13.
