NORTH CAROLINA -- The state is gearing up to celebrate Free Fishing Day on Thursday.

It's the one day of the year when anyone can fish in public waters without a fishing license.
Although no license is needed, all other fishing regulations apply.
Free Fishing Day is an annual tradition celebrated on every July 4 in our state and dates back to 1994.
The day is sponsored by the NC Wildlife Commission and authorized by the NC General Assembly.
