  • Police are investigating a shooting in Uptown at a graduation party.
  • The apartment building is at 6th and Graham.
  • One person is dead and three were injured.

It happened at an apartment building at 6th and Graham streets. Police got a call that shots had been fired at this apartment complex just before 1 a.m. Wednesday morning.

When they arrived, officers found one man, 24-year-old Calvin Haines, dead from a gunshot wound in a stairwell.

Two other men, who were also shot, were taken to the hospital.

A third man later showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound. The others injured were 22-years-old, 19-years-old, and 16-years-old.

Police say the group was at a party at one of the apartments that had been rented online.

Witnesses say the party was for teens who were graduating this week. Major Allan Rutledge of CMPD said there is a growing trend of violent behavior at these one night party rentals.

“I would be cautious of people that are wanting to rent your residence for one night so certainly that's a factor that I would be concerned about if that was the case,” said Rutledge.

CMPD says detectives are with a suspect, but they couldn't say who organized this party or rented out the unit.
