- The Mooresville police chief, Damon Williams, has been put on administrative leave.
- The town manager's office confirms that he was placed on leave pending a final review of an internal investigation.
- He was previously Tarboro's police chief.
The town manager's office says they can't discuss personnel matters, but they did confirm Williams was placed on leave pending the final review of an internal investigation of the department by an outside agency.
They've also confirmed that Police Captain David Call, supervisor of the Criminal Investigations Division, has been placed on administrative leave without pay. For both Williams and Call, the town's public information officer says, "This action is solely a personnel matter and was not based on any allegation or suspicion of criminal activity."
Earlier this year, the town manager sent a memo to all employees asking for their thoughts on the police department's working environment.
Williams was hired in 2016 after serving as chief of police in Tarboro for four years.
