RALEIGH, N.C. – The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission is asking the public to keep an eye out for armadillos.
- Biologists in NC want you to look out for armadillos.
- If you see one, they'd like you to take a picture and send it to them with its location.
- Armadillos have been found in 27 of North Carolina's 100 counties.
Commission biologists are seeking observations to help them determine the range expansion of nine-banded armadillos in the state.
To participate, volunteers who spot an armadillo in the wild should upload and share their photos on the NC Armadillo project site. Volunteers can upload their photos via a computer at iNaturalist.org or they can download the free iNaturalist app, or email armadillo@ncwildlife.org.
If you’d like to participate, they’d like a picture of the armadillo, and to know where and when you saw it.
According to the commission, Armadillos are native to Central and South America but have gradually expanded their range into the southeastern United States, having been seen in 27 North Carolina counties.
