BURKE COUNTY, N.C. – Neighbors in a small Burke County community near Hickory say they are thinking about selling their homes after one of their neighbors was shot by Burke County SWAT.
- Sheriff's office executed a no-knock search warrant at the home of 50-year-old Johnny Kaylor.
- Kaylor was in bed and refused to listen to officer's directions.
- Dectevies found $27,000 worth of methamphetamine, along with pills, marijuana and a handgun.
The sheriff’s office says they executed a no-knock search warrant at the home of 50-year-old Johnny Kaylor on Airport Rhodhiss Road Wednesday.
They say Kaylor was in bed and refused to listen to officer’s directions. He threatened to kill them or himself. When Kaylor moved his hands under the blanket, SWAT fired, hitting him in the leg.
Detectives say they found $27,000 worth of methamphetamine. They also found pills, marijuana, and a handgun.
“My neighbor and myself are both thinking about putting our trailer up for sale because we know it’s not safe down here. If he were to get out because of what he went through, there would be retribution. It was a drug bust that took months in planning, he would think someone’s behind it,” said Pearl Sins, a neighbor of Kaylor.
Kaylor was taken to the hospital where he had surgery and is in serious condtion, but stable.
The search was part of a months long investigation by the sheriff’s office. At this point, the sheriff’s office has not charged Kaylor.
