NORTH CAROLINA -- If it's seemed like we've had some kind of rain or storms every weekend, it's not just you!

  • I took a look at the past several weekends to find out if this is just all in our heads or an actual reoccurring pattern
  • The first weekend of May, which is the most recent weekend to date, brought periods of heavy rain for both Saturday and Sunday
  • For instance, only two out of the seven previous Monday's have had measurable rainfall

There have been a lot of groans about the weekend forecast lately due to, what seems to be, a frequent occurrence of rain and storm events.  I took a look at the past several weekends to find out if this is just all in our heads or an actual reoccurring pattern.

The first weekend of May, which is the most recent weekend to date, brought periods of heavy rain for both Saturday and Sunday. So, we're already off to a not-so-great start in this analysis.

Looking back at April, all four Friday's had measurable rainfall out at the Charlotte Douglass International airport! If we look at solely Saturday and Sunday, five out of the seven past weekends (from the weekend of May 4 to the weekend of March 24) have had measurable rainfall on one or both of the days.

In comparison, we've seen the return of dry weather for the beginning of most work weeks. For instance, only two out of the seven previous Monday's have had measurable rainfall. It seems like Mother Nature just has a thing for the week days!
