YORK COUNTY, S.C. -- A teen killed in a shooting in Fort Mill last year is being honored by South Carolina.

Karson Whitesell was 19 when she was shot and killed while working at the Peach Stand store in January 2018.

Christopher Mendez, who police say she did not know, later pleaded guilty in her murder and was sentenced to life in prison.

The South Carolina legislature plans to name the corner of Highway 160 and Highway 21 the Karson Bailey Whitesell Memorial Intersection."

Members of the legislature have requested to signs and markers and are talking to Whitesell's family about holding a naming ceremony.
