POLK COUNTY, N.C. – Rescue crews managed to save a boat from falling off the edge of a dam in Sunny View on Tuesday.

  • A pontoon boat was hanging off the side of a dam in Polk County.
  • EMS says there was no one on the boat, but conditions were making it so it was hard to retrieve.
  • On Tuesday afternoon, officials with the Town of Columbus Fire Department said NC wildlife officers were able to safely retrieve the boat

Drones captured the nerve-racking sight near Mill Spring Monday.

Officials in Polk County were assessing a boat floating freely on Lake Adger following severe weather Monday.

The boat wound up getting stuck on the side of the dam near Highway 9.

Polk County Emergency Management posted a statement to their Facebook Monday saying, “Polk County Emergency Management has been made aware of a pontoon boat partially hanging off the Turner Shoals Dam at Lake Adger. Due to the current conditions with the lake levels and the wind we are not able to do anything to remove it until the winds diminish and the lake levels drop… We know there is no one on the boat and there is no immediate threat to life.”

However, on Tuesday afternoon, the Town of Columbus Fire and Rescue posted to their Facebook page that NC wildlife officers were able to safety pull the boat to safety. They reportedly connected their boat to a tree and connected a winch to the pontoon to pull it away from the dam.

No damage was done to the dam, and fortunately, no one was injured.
