Shomari White of South Meck’s mentoring group, “Rise 2 Impact" won the scholarship.
The group designed T-shirts under the Michael Jordan Brand "Hyper- Local Tee Program." It’s a program that takes teens inside the design floor of major brands, and gives them a sneak peek at how Jordan shoes are designed.
Shomari took it a step further. He was so inspired, he applied to and won a scholarship under Jordan's "Wings Scholars" program.
"Even when I applied I had a little bit of doubt, but, you know, that faith that you're striving for greatness, it's kind of satisfying,” Shomari White said. “It's kind of reassuring that, you know, maybe I could do this. Maybe, I could go further than what I thought. It helps you to dream big."
White says he’s excited he’ll get to focus on studying, free of student loans.
