After a dry, chilly start to the day Thursday, rain will spread back in across the area Thursday afternoon with a mix of snow and sleet possible for the mountains. Snow accumulations should be very light, with only up to a half an inch possible for most locations. Rain will remain showery across the Piedmont into this evening, with totals of only up to two-tenths of an inch.

This evening, a brief period of freezing rain will be possible for the mountains before all of us make the changeover to just rain. Things will begin clearing out tonight, leaving the Piedmont dry for Friday. Enjoy the brief dry up while it lasts! A second and stronger cold front will begin moving in Saturday, bringing ran back to the area. While we will all start out as rain Saturday, the mountains will see this changeover to snow by early Sunday where additional accumulations will be possible.

Behind this front, dry but very cold air will move in for Monday, likely leading to some of the coldest temperatures we've seen this season!
