YORK COUNTY, N.C. -- One year later York County Sheriff's Office is remembering a detective killed during a domestic violence investigation ambush.
- On January 16, 2018, the sheriff's office responded to a call about an armed and dangerous man on the loose
- The suspect opened fire injuring Sgt. Kyle Cummings and Sgt. Bobby Brown, and killing Detective Mike Doty
- The York County Sheriff's Office interviewed everyone who was there for a series on that night as part of a series published on their YouTube station
On January 16, 2018, the sheriff's office responded to a call about an armed and dangerous man on the loose.
Deputies responded, going to wooded area where the suspect, Christian McCall was last seen.
When they got there, McCall opened fire, injuring Sgt. Kyle Cummings and Sgt. Bobby Brown, and killing Detective Mike Doty.
York County Sheriff Kevin Tolson said then, and now, he has to be strong for his deputies.
Tolson said "You have to reach down deeper than you ever thought you could to be strong for them because that's what they need."
McCall pleaded guilty to killing Mike Doty and is currently serving a life sentence.
