NORTH CAROLINA -- The North Carolina Republican Party held a press conference Tuesday morning, giving their update on the 9th Congressional district election investigation.

  • The NCGOP held a press conference to call for Mark Harris to be certified as winner in the District 9 congressional race.
  • They claim that the Democrats are "stalling" to gain the seat.
  • Monday, Mark Harris urged the State Board of Elections to certify the race.

NCGOP Chairman Robin Hayes reiterated prior statements from the party that Republican Mark Harris, who leads Democrat Dan McCready in the race, should be certified as winner and head to Washington. The chairman said that there are “allegations,” but “no evidence” of wrongdoing.

As the investigation into possible election fraud continues in North Carolina's 9th Congressional District, we've compiled our coverage here.

“It is clear that the Democrats will do anything they can do to gain this seat. Federal and state Democrats have resorted to one stalling tactic after another. It follows a pattern, you’ve seen it on judicial appointments…you know the rest of the story,” said Hayes.

He accused Democrats of stalling and collusion.

"If they had discovered a shred of evidence, they would have made it public. They didn’t because they don’t have it. Evidence has shown serious potential collusion between Josh Malcolm and Bladen County Democrats.” he said.

When asked on what he thinks the next step should be, he said, “I think the election needs to be certified." He added that the investigation should continue, but it should be "defined" and "transparent."

There have been allegations of fraud in this race concerning absentee ballots and ballot harvesting.

Monday, Harris once again urged the State Elections Board to certify the results of the race, which would have him winning with about 900 more votes than McCready.

The hearing for the case has been scheduled for Tuesday, January 22 at 10 a.m.
