CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- This year's money for Duke Energy’s solar rebate program ran out in just two days.
- The utility says it had more than 2,000 applicants
- Solar Energy installations come with a 30 percent federal tax credit
- The Duke Energy solar rebate program will continue for another three years
The utility says it had more than 2,000 applicants and a waiting list filling the capacity for this year’s rebates, but North Carolinians can still save money while they’re saving energy.
Solar Energy installations come with a 30 percent federal tax credit. Solar provider Renu Energy Solutions says a typical home saves 20 to 30 percent on its energy bill with a solar panel installation.
“So you’ll actually get a credit for each unit of energy that you send to [Duke Energy],” Renu Energy Solution spokesman John Sheldon said. “But you’re saving because you’re avoiding the spend on the electric company.”
The Duke Energy solar rebate program will continue for another three years. Customers can apply to be on the waiting list on Duke Energy’s website.
