NEW YORK - The investigative team at NY1 has learned FDNY Commissioner Dan Nigro has removed Chief of Department James Leonard from his post, as the top uniform member of the department.

This follows an ongoing investigation by the city law department into his treatment of staff.

It comes on the heels of an article in the New York Daily News that detailed a power struggle between Leonard and the department's first deputy commissioner, Laura Kavanaugh.

The announcement was made during a meeting of staff chiefs at fire deparment headquarters Thursday morning.
