CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- East Charlotte's Bojangles Coliseum will get to keep its name for at least another 10 years.

  • A new naming agreement will keep Bojangles Coliseum's name for at least 10 more years.
  • City Council approved the agreement, which increased the licensing fee.
  • They also approved a $110 million expansion for the Charlotte Convention Center.

The Charlotte City Council approved a new naming agreement between the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority and the famous chicken and biscuit company while increasing the licensing fee to $240,000 for the first year and $10,000 more each year after that.

The head of the CRVA said he was pleased with the outcome.

“They gave us a range that they thought the naming rights should market towards and we're pleased that we were able to come to a level at the top end of that range. Once again we really thank Bojangles,” said thomas murray.

Murray also said that even though Bojangles was recently acquired, he's been assured that the company would remain headquartered in the city.

City Council also approved a $110 million expansion for the Charlotte Convention Center in Uptown.

The project will enhance the meeting space, increase the amount of breakout space, create new pedestrian-friendly connections and upgrade the building's technology.

Construction is expected to start next year and run through 2020.
