NORTH CAROLINA -- If you are among the 164 million Americans holiday shopping, here is some information on how to keep your packages from ending up in the wrong hands.

Investigators say mail and package theft is one of the biggest problems during the holiday season. Shoppers in the Raleigh-Durham area are “more likely to get a package stolen during the holidays,” according a study by SafeWise.

Ways to protect yourself against package theft:

• Send your package to the delivery company's pick-up station
• Sign up for text notifications
• Require a signature
• Install security cameras
