CATAWBA COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA – Twenty-two men and women who served Catawba County’s fire departments were honored at this year's memorial service.
The firefighter's bell rang out for each of them, whether they currently worked in the field or retired from their service.
St. Stephen's Chief Shawn Goode explained why he comes out each year.
"The best way I can describe it is family, and you feel very comfortable with them,” said Goode. “It's a small part that we can help recognize the service and commitment, the time their loved ones provided for our community."
The service is an 18-year county tradition.
