YORK, S.C. – A fire destroyed a South Carolina dog kennel Thursday night.

  • 43 dogs survived
  • York County Animal Control is assisting
  • There is no known cause of the fire

Chapman's Dachshund Kennel posted to Facebook that they tried to save as many dogs as they could before things became too dangerous.

Forty-three dogs survived, and many are being treated for smoke inhalation.

"I love this rescue, and it's near and dear to my heart. Gina, as a person, she does everything she could to make sure that these dachshunds are fully taken care of, that they're safe. And to see something like this happen, it completely breaks my heart," volunteer Meggan Beltran said.

York County Animal Control is helping to house some of the dogs. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
