CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a deadly shooting in northwest Charlotte.

Police identified the woman as 34-year-old Shikeither Smith and Thomas McCray is charged with her murder. The woman's body was found on the 1500 block of Newcastle Street at around 7 on Wednesday morning.

Neighbors say the shooting was uncalled for. 

"We are all humans and we make mistakes. But just, we've got to love one another. You know. Take a deep breath and ,just, it's not worth it," neighbor Gary Helms said.
