HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. – Two suspects are behind bars after Hillsborough police say they were found in possession of a homemade explosive device in a Walmart parking lot.

  • Two people have been arrested and charged.

The device was found early Thursday morning in a vehicle at the shopping center on Hampton Pointe Boulevard. It was discovered after a Hillsborough officer noticed the vehicle with its door open.

Jimmy Rae Poythress, 33, and Brandy Benson, 30, were both found sleeping in the vehicle along with drug paraphernalia and the device. They are both facing charges for felony possession of a weapon of mass destruction.

The device has been rendered harmless by the Durham County Sheriff’s Office.
