STANLY COUNTY, N.C. -- A Greensboro woman has been charged with boating while impaired after a deadly accident on Badin Lake Saturday morning.
- Denise Sweeney has been charged with DWI.
- Sweeney's pontoon boat was in a collision with a bass boat just after midnight Saturday morning.
- The driver of the bass boat, Ronald Murphy, was killed.
Denise Sweeney, 62, was operating a pontoon boat carrying eight passengers when her boat was in a collision with a bass boat driven by Ronald Murphy, 57.
Murphy was killed in the accident.
While Sweeney has been charged, she has not been said to have been at fault for the accident.
Law enforcement is now reminding people of the laws against drinking and boating.
In Greensboro, no alcohol is permitted on any vessel on city lakes. City workers also check coolers and suspend anyone with alcohol on the premises.
Investigators say at least nine people had minor injuries after the crash Saturday night. Sweeney has a court date on September 11 in Stanly County.
