ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. -- Every year, fire departments respond to more than 300,000 house fires across the U.S. And it's not just people these departments need to protect, furry friends are in need, too.

  • The fire department received three sets of animal oxygen masks
  • Each kit comes with three different sized masks
  • Each mask cost about $90 and is reusable

With the help of a donation from non-profit organization, the South Salisbury Fire Department recently received three sets of animal oxygen masks.

Firefighters within the department say it will help them better serve the community.

"I know as a pet owner myself, if that was me in that situation I would be completely thrilled to know if they are able to get my pet out then they’re able to provide them with the necessities to hopefully get them better and fix the problem,” said firefighter Holly-Anne Franco.

Each kit comes with three different sized masks to help almost every animal imaginable.

Each mask costs about $90 and is reusable.
