  • Eight teams will play Aug. 16-21.

Eight teams are playing this weekend between Aug. 16-21. Players are coming from 50 states, and have to make it past state and regional tournaments to play in the World Series.

Organizers say the event has grown since Shelby became the permanent tournament home in 2011. The event chariman estimates 600,000 people tuned in on television last year.

“It's a big atmosphere every year,” former player Michael Newton says. “People get excited when it's coming here. I know a lot of the community members host a lot of the players from the different regions that they come from."
