CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- If you're looking for summer fun, Romare Bearden Park is usually a great place to go, especially with furry friends.
- Dog owners say litter is a problem at Romare Bearden Park
- Owners fear their dogs could choke on chicken bones in the park
- If you spot litter in a Mecklenburg County park, call 311
But recently, some Charlotte residents have noticed a problem with bones that isn't the good kind for four-legged friends.
Since moving to Charlotte in May, dog owner Katie Sauter says the situation with eaten chicken bones is getting worse day after day.
It’s become such an issue. She says she fears to take her dog to the park at times because of the possibility she could choke on a bone.
Sauter says she hopes by speaking out people will think twice about throwing their used wings on the ground.
“Yeah, it’s something as a passerby you may not think, but once you have to reach down your dog’s throat and pull it out and then you realize you’re touching someone’s dirty chicken wing, that’s when it gets a little much for me to handle,” Sauter said.
We reached out to the Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation department. They told us the department maintains all parks daily, including Romare Bearden Park and removes any trash or garbage as quickly as possible.
If a viewer sees someone litter, they can call 311 or the main park office at 980-314-1000.
