MORRISVILLE, N.C. -- The Fourth of July is quickly approaching and the TSA wants to remind passengers to double check their carry-on bags for items that aren’t permitted on flights before heading to the airport.
- Fourth of July travel is expected to clog security checkpoints at RDU.
- RDU has confiscated more than 15 knives in the past two days.
- TSA has a twitter and an app to help you determine what you can and cannot take on a plane.
For some people, one of the most stressful times of their vacation is just going through airport security.
In just the past two days at RDU International Airport, the TSA has confiscated more than 15 knives, gardening tools, several screwdrivers and a railroad spike.
“It doesn’t occur to them that, in the hands of the wrong person, this could be used as a weapon,” said TSA Spokesman Mike England.
There are several ways to check to see if you can bring a specific item on a plane.
You can call or tweet at TSA, or use the MyTSA mobile app. On that app you can search via the "Can I Bring?" Tool for items that you'd like to take with you.
