NATIONWIDE -- A new survey shows North Carolina is among the top 20 safest states to live in.
WalletHub combined data about emergency preparedness, personal and residential safety, road safety, financial safety and workplace safety to come up with a total composite score.
North Carolina came in at number 17 on the list after receiving high marks for personal and residential safety (9th place) and workplace safety (5th) but low marks for road safety and emergency preparedness (both 40th).

Least Safe States:
50. Mississippi
