GASTON COUNTY, N.C. –  Funeral services have been set for a Gaston County Sheriff’s corporal killed last month when her father drove his Jeep into a Bessemer City restaurant.

  • Cpl. Katelyn Self was killed on May 20.
  • Roger Self drove his Jeep into the Surf and Turf Lodge.
  • Family members say Roger Self suffered from mental illness. 

Cpl. Katelyn Self, 26, was killed at the Surf and Turf Lodge on North 14th Street on May 20.

Authorities said Katelyn Self was eating with her family when her father, Roger Self, intentionally drove his vehicle into the restaurant.

Roger Self’s daughter-in-law, Amanda Self, was also killed. Several others were injured as well.

A representative for the Self family said Roger Self was suffering from mental illness.

Friends will be received Sunday, June 10 from 2 to 3:45 p.m. at Gastonia First Assembly of God, at 777 South Myrtle School Road in Gastonia.

A funeral service will be held immediately following at 4 p.m.

Burial will follow at Hovis Family Cemetery in Dallas, North Carolina.
