On May 13, James Earl Scott fell unconscious as his Crestdale Drive home caught fire. Thankfully, firefighters got there within 4 minutes and carried him to safety.
“Looked like he was on his way out, and just didn’t make it. Was about 10-15 feet from the door," said Engine 15's Adrian Turner.
Now recovering from some burns, Scott was able to stop by and thank the men and women who rushed to his aid.
“All I've got to tell you is that I'm lucky. It’s good that we got people like this in Mecklenburg County," said Scott.
Scott also credits CFD Captain Jackie Gilmore for calling him nearly every day since the fire to check in on him.
