AVERY COUNTY, N.C. -- Two trails at Grandfather Mountain State Park are closed due to rain and storm damage over the weekend.

• Nuwati and Gragway trails closed
• Heavy rains May 17-20
• Other trails open but be cautious

Nuwati and Gragway trails will likely be closed for several weeks as crews assess and repair the damage.

Avery, Watauga and Caldwell counties received heavy rains May 17-20.

All other trails at the state park will remain open but are severely eroded and have some sections of steps washed up.

Park officials ask that hikers take these factors into consideration when planning a trip to the park.
