GOLDSBORO, N.C. -- Firefighters blasted Eastern Aluminum Supply Company building with water as smoke rose through the tattered roof, stoked by the massive flames.

Still unknown:

  • What started the fire.
  • The extent of the damage.
  • What will happen to employees.

Michael Meadows lives next to the large building and saw it quickly engulfed in flames as firefighters feared the propane tanks inside could explode.

“You could see it. It was forming, it was circulating. You know what I’m saying, like a forest fire when you see it engulfs another tree and stuff that’s how intense and fiery it was when it came out,” he says.

The Goldsboro Fire Department says they responded to multiple calls of the fire just 1:30 p.m.  They quickly upgraded it to a second alarm upon arrival because of the size of the flames and the supplies inside. Four volunteer departments helped.

Officials haven’t located where the fire started or determined a cause.
