Surf City, N.C. -- More than a dozen cold-stunned turtles from New England and New Jersey made a stop in Surf City before heading to their final destination.

The turtles were taken to the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center Monday morning.

During their stop, the turtles were able to hydrate and stretch their flippers while the drivers transporting them were able to rest.

At the end of their journey, the turtles will be released in Florida, where the water is much warmer.
