CHARLOTTE -- People in Charlotte joined more than 800 cities holding March For Our Lives rallies Saturday.

The march was organized by a group of high school students in Charlotte, inspired by the national movement started by the survivors of the Parkland, Florida shooting.

Thousands marched to fight for stricter gun laws and more school security.

"These kids had to go through something completely terrifying, and awful that none of us know what it actually feels like. The fact that they could come out here and just put aside everything that happened to start this movement is completely amazing," said Laesha Aguilar, a March for Our Lives participant.

There's also a display at Marshall Park honoring the students who have lost their lives to gun violence.
