HICKORY, N.C. -- A man is under arrest following a deadly hit-and-run in Hickory Saturday morning.

Hickory Police say 55-year-old Jeffrey Bumgarner of Catawba County is charged with felony death by motor vehicle as well as driving while impaired.

They say he's responsible for the death of 58-year-old Charles Shook, Jr. of Newton.

Police say the accident happened in the 3100 block of Highway 70 southeast around 8:30.

Bumgarner and his vehicle were found nearby. He's in the Catawba County Detention Facility on a $30,000 secured bond.
