CHARLOTTE -- The Latin American Coalition is working with a Charlotte church to provide a safe place for migrant day laborers to find work.
St. John's United Methodist Church on Monroe Rd. will will provide space for a day labor center where workers can find work, negotiate pay, and will help ensure employers follow through with pay.
"We have a check and balance system in place so that we can make sure that they get paid what they're deserved,” Renee Bromfield of Providence United Methodist Church said.
The center will ask employers to register before picking up laborers.
It opens in March.
