WILMINGTON, N.C. -- More than 350 people weathered the rain Sunday morning to support music in Brunswick County.

It’s the fifth year for the Beethoven 15K Race, an event that raises money for the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra and its youth programs. This year, Brunswick Forest hosted the race providing a scenic backdrop for the runners.

Event organizers said the youth symphony has more than 70 kids from five counties.

“As I say, it keeps them off the streets and gives them an outlet. Because through the arts, people can express themselves and they feel good about themselves through that,” said coordinator Lesa Broadhead.

The Wilmington Symphony is celebrating its 47th year.
