CHARLOTTE -- After almost an hour of debate, the Charlotte City Council voted to turn the cameras back on for the public forum.

New council member Braxton Winston pushed for the change. He said he wants all parts of the meeting to be accessible to the community.

“We want to be more inclusive, connecting the folks that live in our city to the business that occurs here,” said Winston.

Under the new policy, people will be able comment on social medai during livestream, but council members won't respond.

Republican Ed Driggs believes allowing comments cause more harm than good.

“I’m all in favor of transparency, I’m not trying to hide anything from the public but we run the risk of getting involved with a shouting match in the social media space,” said Driggs.

The city attorney said comments made on city's social media pages will be considered public record.
