CHARLOTTE -- Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson says he has decided to put the franchise up for sale.
Friday, news broke that the 81-year-old is being investigated for misconduct in the workplace.
Two days later, a report from Sports Illustrated said that he made sexual remarks to women in the workplace and used a racial slur to an African-American who later left.
They also said Richardson gave the accused victims "significant monetary settlements."
He released a statement on the team’s website saying, “I believe it is time to turn the franchise over to new ownership. Therefore, I will put the team up for sale at the conclusion of this NFL season. We will not begin the sale process, nor will we entertain any inquiries, until the very last game is played. I hope everyone in this organization, both on the field and off the field, will be firmly focused on just one mission: to play and win the Super Bowl.”
A spokesman for the organization said they are fully cooperating with the investigation which is being led by the National Football League.
Richardson was awarded the expansion franchise in 1993 and he has been the team's only owner since.
On Twitter, both Diddy and Steph Curry have expressed interest in buying the team.
