CHARLOTTE – One woman is recovering after being bitten by a copperhead snake Friday night.
Lisa Romanoff was taking out the recycling when she felt something bite her and turned around to find the venomous creature behind the stoop of her house.
After snapping a picture of the snake, she went to the emergency room.
However, anti-venom was not administered because she says it’s scarce and makes one terribly sick.
“The pain gets increasingly worse,” said Romanoff. “First couple hours it felt like a sting and then it starts to spread up your leg.”
Carolinas Poison Control says the earlier part of 2017 was filled with copperhead encounters, but its since leveled off.
It was the same as last year at 650 bites, but about 25 percent more than 2015.
With warmer continuing, the snakes will stay around a bit longer and in warm spots like sunny cement or mulch piles.
