CHARLOTTE -- CMPD Chief Kerr Putney responded to recommendations for changes in policy and training.

It's the result of a review of the Keith Scott shooting by the Citizens Review Board.

The Citizens Review Board said CMPD should revise policies and training on use of de-escalation.

Putney says it's already part of tactical training for sworn officers. However, he also said, "We also need to assess the effectiveness, making sure we're improving decision making."

Citizens Review Board said CMPD should evaluate its practice of vehicle take downs and breaching or breaking a window.

But the chief says the department will look at other methods of safely gaining compliance.

Finally, Citizens Review Board said CMPD needs to do more to prove an armed suspect is automatically a lethal threat.

Social activists are happy to see CMPD publicizing policy changes due to the CRB recommendations. But they are recommendations the chief says don't matter when a suspect is armed.
