NORTH CAROLINA -- Although Wednesday's winning Powerball ticket, worth a whopping $758.7 million, was sold in Chicopee, Massachusetts, 16 North Carolinians also are waking up substantially richer on Thursday.

The N.C. Education Lottery announced on Thursday that nine North Carolinians won $50,000, six won $200,000 and one lucky North Carolinian won $1 million in Wednesday's game.

The $1 million ticket was sold at a Food Lion in Creedmoor. 

In total, 257,229 tickets won prizes from $4 to $1 million, totaling $4.5 million.

The six $200,000 tickets, which were a base prize of $50,000, but were multiplied to become $200,000 with the $1 Power Play feature, were sold in the following locations:

  • Week’s Grocery, Barnes Street, Reidsville. (Rockingham County)
  • Olde Brunswick Store No. 2, East Oak Island Drive, Oak Island (Brunswick County)
  • M&M Mart, North Main Street, Marion (McDowell County)
  • Food Lion, East Parrish Drive, Benson (Johnston County)
  • Brite Mart, North Main Street, Goldston (Chatham County)
  • Linwood Family Mart, Linwood Road, Kings Mountain (Cleveland County)

The nine other tickets worth $50,000 were sold in the following locations:

  • Durham (2)
  • Emerald Isle
  • Indian Trail
  • Gibsonville
  • Winston-Salem
  • Lumberton
  • Raleigh
  • Haw River

The winning jackpot of $758.7 million is the largest jackpot won by a single ticket in U.S. lottery history.
