CHARLOTTE -- 5-year-old Brody Thornberg loves to golf -- so much so, when the bucket's empty, he runs onto the driving range to collect more.

He’s a normal 5-year-old, who sometimes has to wear this face mask.

Brody has severe aplastic anemia. His immune system is so compromised, he's already had one bone marrow transplant, and after a relapse, another could be on the horizon.

"We honestly never know how he's going to be when he wakes up in the morning, if it's going to be a good day or a bad day,” said Crystal Thornberg, his mother.

But Tuesday -- was a very good day. Brody was the guest of honor at the Joe Maus Celebrity Golf Tournament, surrounded by his favorite football team -- the Carolina Panthers.
