SYLVA, N.C. -- A North Carolina man has opened a one-of-a-kind museum, dedicated to the house cat.

The American Museum of The House Cat, located in Sylva, North Carolina, opened on April 1 of this year. It showcases the 30+ year collection of knick-knacks related to the house cat collected by Dr. Harold Sims, a retired biology professor also known as the "Cat Man."

According to the museum's website, this is the only museum of its kind and magnitude in the United States.

The museum includes cat poster art, folk art, ad art, vintage cat toys, cat storybooks, clocks, window displays and more.

Admission to the museum is $5. Any money earned in excess to museum costs goes toward Catman2 Inc., a shelter run by Sims and his wife.

The museum is located at the Old School Antique Mall in Sylva and is open from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday and 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. on Sunday.
