CHARLOTTE - Charlotte defense attorney Monroe Whitesides has died.
The well-known defense lawyer had been ill for years and had lost the ability to walk a few years ago.
Despite that, he continued to work on some high-profile cases including the Greg Hardy domestic violence case.
Whitesides was born in Gastonia and graduated from Wofford College.
After law school, he became Mecklenburg County’s assistant district attorney and later started his own law firm.
A funeral will be held this Saturday at 1 p.m. at Parkwood Baptist Church in Gastonia.
Whitesides was 58-years-old.
