GENESEO, N.Y. -- The SUNY Geneseo student who died in a car crash Tuesday is Savannah Williams, 18, of Norwich. Williams was a freshman and member of the women's basketball team.
The Livingston County Sheriff's Office stated Williams was in a car turning off of Court Street onto Route 63 when the car was struck by a tractor-trailer. Williams died at the scene, which is located just a few hundred yards from the campus.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 24-year-old Niagara Falls man, was not injured. Officials say the investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time.
Livingston County Sheriff Tom Dougherty said his office reviewed collisions at the intersection of the past three years and found there have been eight collisions -- including Tuesday's -- since January 1, 2014, with this incident being the only fatal collision.
This is the second tragedy that has befallen the team in 11 months. Kelsey Annese was killed in a double-murder suicide last January.
