RALEIGH -- Raleigh's Crabtree Valley Mall reopened Sunday one day after reports of a shooting forced a lockdown and shoppers and employees to evacuate.
Raleigh police say they've wrapped up the active part of their investigation and they couldn't find any evidence that someone was shot.
Some witnesses say they heard gunshots and some even reported seeing a man with a gun. There was a massive panic as shoppers rushed out of the mall – some with nothing more than the clothes they were wearing.
Matthew Woods and his family, who were in Raleigh for vacation, were at the mail Saturday when they heard the popping noise.
"We heard a loud bang and people were a little unsettled and then there started to be a panic," said Woods.
He said they had to leave all of their belongings and now they're coming back to retrieve them. Mall officials say shoppers who left their belongings inside the mall can retrieve them Sunday. Those shoppers should go to the mall's community room located near the food court.
“We left our stuff and just grabbed the children and headed for the exit,” says Woods. “[We left] my wife's purse, all of our shopping, the push cart we were using. We just grabbed the children and ran.”
Several local, state and federal agencies are still looking into what exactly took place.
