Dallas SWAT cleared the parking garage adjacent to Dallas Police Department headquarters Saturday, hours after reports of a threat against officers.
The SWAT team was deployed to the Dallas Police Department Headquarters Saturday just after 4 p.m., according to Rebecca Lopez at Dallas station WFAA.
Police confirmed to station KDFW just after 5:30 p.m. that they had received "an anonymous threat against law enforcement across the city" and that the department "has taken precautionary measures."
At about 5:45 p.m., reporters on the scene said the scene appeared to be "escalating," with officers seen with weapons drawn in multiple locations.
Police and SWAT team members soon focused their attention on a parking garage often used by officers near the headquarters.
Police extended a safety perimeter, pushing media back several blocks from the south side of the building.
Visitors to the officers' memorial set up in front of the headquarters building were moved across the street.
A first sweep of the parking garage, completed around 7 p.m., produced no sign of a suspect. Police quickly began a second search, this time with the aid of K-9 officers.
A third sweep of the building found no suspicious person or items. Police then concluded their search.
Dallas Police Chief David O. Brown commended his officers for their response during Saturday's incident.
