CHARLOTTE -- Charlotte Fire Chief Jon Hannan will spend the next three months on probation.

Charlotte City Manager Ron Carlee has also put a formal reprimand in his personnel file.

This after city councilperson John Autry raised questions about who leaked a memo from Carlee to the vice president of the Charlotte Firefighter Association and later to a reporter.

In a statement, Hannan says he mistakenly believed that the memo had already been made public and he regrets not verifying that before releasing the information.

Hannan added, "I believe that part of leadership includes integrity and that integrity requires acknowledging mistakes, learning from them and moving on.  I want to thank the fire department for its service to our community and our community for the opportunity that I have been given to continue to lead the wonderful men and women in this department."
