SOUTH CAROLINA - A former South Carolina state trooper could spend up to 20 years behind bars after pleading guilty to shooting an unarmed driver.
Sean Groubert pleaded guilty Monday to assault and battery.
In 2014, he pulled Levar Jones over for a seat-belt violation. Jones turned to reach for his ID, when Groubert then fired several shots.
Jones was hit in the hip, and survived.
After the shooting, Groubert was quickly released from the department.
Circuit Judge Casey Manning said he wanted time to think about Groubert's sentence.
