STANLY COUNTY - 13 people were arrested today in a drug bust in Stanly County after months of investigation.
The investigation was a result of complaints from local residents. The arrests resulted in 127 charges including possession with intent to sell and deliver controlled substances, trafficking controlled substances, conspiracy to sell and deliver controlled substances, felony possession of controlled substances, selling and delivering controlled substances and maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances.
Stanly County Sherriff George Burris and Albemarle Police Chief Danny Brown call the operation a success.
The Stanly County District Attorney, along with state, local and federal investigators are cracking down on drug trafficking.
"We're not going to take this anymore from these criminals, from these drug dealers, that we're here and that we're gonna stand together and make a statement,” said Sheriff Burris.
Sixty officers arrested 13 people across the county. More charges are pending and the total bond for all arrested totals $475,000.
"Meth, heroin, marijuana, cocaine, pills, but also we've been looking at any gun violations and ATF can help out with any gun violations,” said Sheriff Burris.
Only Time Warner Cable News was there as investigators executed search warrants and made some of the arrests.
"We're going for stiffer penalties and habitual felons so if they're convicted they're going away for a maximum amount of time, keep them off the streets of Stanly County," said Sheriff Burris.
Stanly County investigators say the county wide effort is a way to show the community they won’t stand for crime.
"The District Attorney's office is working hand in hand with the many law enforcement agencies involved to aggressively prosecute these cases to remove these drugs and these drug dealers from our communities,” said Lynn Clodfelter, District Attorney for Stanly County.
As the suspects head to court on Thursday, all involved are hopeful this bust will be one that will clean up the streets.
